President Barack Hussein Obama born in Hawaii on August 4, 1961 to his parents Barack Obama Sr. and Anne Dunham - who met each other while attending university in Hawaii. His father, who was enrolled as a foreign student, was a native to Kenya and his mother from Kansas. When Barack was two years old his father left him and his mother - who eventually filed for divorce and remarried - and she picked up an moved Barack to Indonesia to be with her new husband, and Baracks new step father. After some time, Barack took the initiative and made the move back to Hawaii to live with his grandparents and later moved to New York where he ended up graduating from Columbia University around 1983.
After graduating Barack put his law degree on hold and moved to Chicago, where he now calls home, to become a community organizer helping to improve the living conditions of poor people in lesser developed areas of the local area. He would assist in the process of acquiring service jobs for less fortunate people through various agencies as well as helping them to get their plumbing and heating fixed if needed. Though he was very much dedicated to his church through this work, he never lost sight on his law degree and passion to make change from within the political system - which he realized was needed in order to really help those who are less fortunate. It was around this time that Barack met his wife Michelle Robinson while working at a law firm.
in 1991 Barack Obama earned his law degree from Harvard, where he was the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review. What a lot of people don’t know is that when Obama first applied to Harvard Law School he didn’t indicate his race on the application form in fear of being rejected. Shortly after graduating, he moved back to Chicago to pay his dues and practice as a civil rights lawyer while teaching some constitutional law on the side. This eventually led him to work as the chairman of the Public Health and Welfare Committee for the Illinois State Senate in 1996. In 1999 Barack and Michelle gave birth to their first daughter Malia, with their youngest Sasha following shortly after in 2001.
In 2004, after eight years in the Senate, Barack made the move that some would say marked his rise to political stature by writing and delivering the keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston. This action led to his elect into the U.S. Senate a few months later with a 70% of the vote landslide victory, and it was at that moment Time Magazine named him “one of the most admired politicians in America”. Riding this wave of success with his family supporting him, Barack made a formal announcement on February 10, 2007 for his candidacy in the 2008 presidential election.
Barack was actually a budding author before he even stepped foot in the Senate, writing his 1995 memoir “Dreams From My Father” which talked about his early career and memories from childhood. This book was later republished in 2004 containing the written version of his Democratic keynote address earlier that year, and the audio book edition earned Barack Obama a Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album. Within that same year Barack signed a contract to write another three books, which led to his 2006 New Tork Times Best Seller follow up “The Audacity of Hope”.
